PROPERTY APPRAISER’S OFFICE EXTENDS EXEMPTIONS DEADLINE
March Guest Column
By: Cregg Dalton, Citrus County Property Appraiser

As the Citrus County Property Appraiser, it is my responsibility to guarantee that all residential, commercial, and tangible personal properties are valued correctly and to assist our residents in receiving tax saving exemptions. This ensures that property owners pay their fair share of property taxes – no more, no less.

The deadline for exemptions and classifications was March 1, 2021. The late filing period begins on March 2nd. This extended late filing period allows you to apply for or renew any valuable tax-saving exemptions including Homestead Exemption and any other exemptions for the 2021 tax year.

To better serve Citrus County, our office will open on two Saturdays in March to accept late filings of homestead applications. The Citrus County Property Appraiser’s Office will be open:

  • Saturday, March 13, 2021 - 9am to 1pm. Inverness location ONLY
  • Saturday, March 20, 2021 - 9am to 1pm. Meadowcrest location ONLY

Additionally, you can visit our website www.citruspa.org to file for homestead exemption and for downloadable forms and information.

A new application is required if you purchased a new home and vacated your homesteaded property or made any changes in the title to your home prior to January 1, 2021. You may contact our office if you are unsure of the status of your homestead. Property owners with an existing exemption or classification were mailed an annual renewal postcard in January 2021. If no changes have occurred to the property exemption status (i.e., changes of ownership, mailing address, marital status, etc.), renewal is automatic.
